General EQWatcher Concepts > Installation > EQWatcher
Installation of EQWatcher Advanced is really quite simple. Run the installer and pick the directory, hit next, yadda yadda, everyone knows how to do that part because they've installed programs similarly a million times.
The real debacle here is when you first run EQWatcher. On its first run, EQWatcher detects 3 things. A) EverQuest directory. B) EQWatcher Directory. C) WinAMP directory. If you do not have WinAMP installed on your computer, the directory will not be detected, and will not hinder the program. If you decide to install it later, or the detection fails, you can manually set the WinAMP directory by selecting the appropriate menu item in the File menu of EQWatcher.
The file OPTIONS.EQW in your EQWatcher directory can be deleted at any time to force EQWatcher to re-detect. This file is loaded when EQWatcher starts, and only updated with changes when EQWatcher is closed (this may be changed soon to update on each change instead).
Provided that you installed EverQuest on your computer by using the installer off the CD's, and that you installed EQWatcher using the necessary installer, there should be no problem whatsoever, and you can PROBABLY just skip reading this section.
However, if you meet any of the following conditions, you might see problems or have to select a directory manually:
If any of these are true, you will probably have to manually select a directory. This can be done at any time after installation as well, by selecting the appropriate menu item from the File menu in the EQWatcher window... but since this is the installation section of help, I will explain what might happen
Scenario 1:
EQWatcher didn't detect an EverQuest directory (most likely since the installer wasnt used). A window pops up when you first run EQWatcher, looking for a file called "EQMAIN.DLL". No, EQWatcher doesn't access this file, it's just a file that EQ will not run without and therefore makes a pretty good case for finding the right directory. Find EQMAIN.DLL in the directory you have EverQuest in, and double click on it (or whatever you feel like doing at the time, just as long as you don't cancel).
Scenario 2:
EQWatcher didn't detect an EQWatcher directory (most likely since the installer wasnt used). A window pops up when you first run EQWatcher, looking for a file called "EQWA.EXE". This obviously is the EQWatcher Advanced program itself (and it might sound silly that it can't find itself). Find EQWA.EXE in the directory you have EQWatcher in, and double click on it (or whatever you feel like doing at the time, just as long as you don't cancel).
Scenario 3:
EQWatcher detected the WRONG EverQuest directory (most likely since EQ was moved after it was installed). No window is likely to pop up. No log file will be detected. You will need to set this directory manually through the File menu of the EQWatcher window. Please restart EQWatcher after doing so.
Scenario 4:
EQWatcher detected the WRONG EQWatcher directory (most likely since EQWatcher was moved after it was installed). No window is likely to pop up. No sounds will be heard, and the core script will not run (therefore no combat calculations, no channel sounds, etc). You will need to set this directory manually through the File menu of the EQWatcher window. Please restart EQWatcher after doing so.
